Plains of Promise Wyoming Series Book 2 edition by Colleen Coble Romance eBooks

This is one of Colleen Coble's older books that has been released digitally. The first one in the series is called Where Leads the Heart.

Emmie is the sister of Ben Croftner, the villain of the first book. Emmie has been trying to escape from the reputation of her family her entire life. She finally feels like she has someone who loves her for who she is, marries him and settles down to enjoy her life. A tragic carriage accident kills her husband and his real widow shows up on her doorstep. Discovering that she wasn't really married and has no means of support, Emmie finds out about Sarah, (our heroine from book 1) who needs a companion and helper while she is pregnant.

Emmie travels west and fits in well. A handsome officer, Isaac (also introduced in the first book) appears to be interested in Emmie, but after what she has been through, she wants to have nothing to do with men ever again. Her heart doesn't want to live without love and so she is forced to deal with her past.

A promise made without thinking it through is what ends up tripping up Emmie in this story. She never thought that she would have to follow through when she made it and when it seems like she's going to have to, she is sad to learn that she may not have the happiness that she has so recently found.

I did enjoy this book, but I have to say that I wish that Isaac had been a little more developed. We learned so much about Emmie and there were glimpses of Isaac, but not enough in my opinion. There were a lot of repeat characters from the first book, and for that reason, I think that this series should be read in order. Overall, this was a great read.

Plains of Promise Wyoming Series Book 2 edition by Colleen Coble Romance eBooks Reviews

This second book in the series ties up loose ends for Sarah, Rand, Amelia & Jake and introduces Emma, the sister of Labe & evil Ben Croftner. It also adds Jessica, who is not so delightful. The story is very interesting & full of great details, all the characters are also well developed. I could not put this one down!
If you haven't already, you should read the book, Where Leads the Heart Where Leads the Heart (Dakota Historical Series, Book 1) (Heartsong Presents #271) first, which tells the story of Sarah. This book follows along the story of Emmie. It is enjoyable and a quick read with a very good Christian message. If you cry easily, have the tissues handy! I think I liked this better than the first one!
I considered this rating over a five because the author mentions a location that reminded me of Wounded Knee and the indian battle there. Then because of the hostilities between the the large numbers of indians involved in the last section of the book and the plot had the main characters move on, the forts shut down, and peace signed I wondered about the accuracy of the story events. It was well written but I like to believe that the events are accurate.
Yes, another great book by Colleen. She writes about forgiveness and strength to go on with your life when it seems there is no future. When you make a promise, thinking you will never have to honor that promise, what happens when honoring it will change your plans for your future. What would you do?
Plains of Promise is the sequel to Where Leads the Heart. It is an excellent story, along with many others written by Colleen Coble. I admired Emma Croftner, the main character of this story, because of her strength and ability to go forward with her life after the "husband" dies and she finds out he is already married. She makes the long journey to Fort Laramie to be with the Campbells, characters from Where the Heart Leads. Then she has to deal with finding out she is pregnant, but not actually married. This is a great story of how she faces many trials and challenges from "widowhood" to finding a truly wonderful man, Lt. Isaac Liddle, who was also in Where the Heart Leads. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone, but would suggest reading Where the Heart Leads first, so you get to know those characters when you read Plains of Promise. I've read and enjoyed several of Colleen Coble's books, and this one was no exception.
Hard upon the heels of the grief of losing her husband in a tragic accident, Emma finds out she was never truly married because her husband was already married to another woman with whom he'd had a son, both of whom show up on her doorstep soon after the funeral looking to collect what remained of the estate. Destitute and looking for an escape from the scandal, Emma seeks a position as a companion to her friend, Sarah, who is pregnant and living with her husband at Fort Laramie. Emma's determination to stay away from another relationship with a man and a promise made but never intended to be kept, whips things into a fine mess, but I liked her tendency to distract herself from her worries by focusing on other things. I wish we could have seen more of Isaac, but he was such a calm, steady influence, always there in the background letting things run their course. The next story in this series is The Heart Answers, about Jessica (the villianess of books 1 & 2).
Thomas and Pauline travel with their daughters Maggie, Willa, and Evelyn to Philadelphia to a promise of inheriting a funeral home now owned by an uncle. Shortly thereafter Thomas is drafted into the army during the first world war. The Spanish flu erupts causing many deaths with no cure.
Maggie rescues a baby whose mother died; the little boy joins their family bringing hope to them all.

Readers will find more than they ever wanted to know about living and working in a mortuary. The book is well written about a warm, close family. It tells the story about the girls growing up and how the flu affected all of their lives. I particularly enjoyed the girls telling their individual stories to see into each of their lives.
